What is CBD?

CBD (cannabidiol) is one of over a hundred different cannabinoids identified in the cannabis plant. It is one of the most prevalent along with THC and accounts for up to 40% of the plant’s extract. CBD has been found to have no psychoactive properties, so there is no high feeling when it is applied. However, CBD may potentially have more therapeutic effects than THC. This cannabinoid interacts with the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the endocannabinoid system, but it binds much better to the CB2 receptors. CBD has also been shown to slow the degradation of the body’s natural endocannabinoids. This can create longer-lasting therapeutic effects for some consumers. Research has shown that CBD can be used for the management of many ailments including anxiety, stress, insomnia, pain management, and inflammation.

What is CBG?

CBG (cannabigerol) is a naturally occurring cannabinoid within the cannabis plant. Discovered in 1964, this cannabinoid has been known for a while, but little research has been conducted on it. CBGA (cannabegerolic acid) is the first cannabinoid to appear. It quickly decarboxylates into CBG. Once this conversion is complete, CBG then biosynthesizes into CBDA, THCA, and CBCA. As the plant matures, those three cannabinoids decarboxylate into CBD, THC, and CBC respectively, leaving trace amounts of CBG in the mature plant. CBG bonds with the CB1 and CB2 receptors within the endocannabinoid system where it is thought to strengthen the function of anandamide. Due to its unique properties, CBG has no psychoactive effects, but amazing therapeutic effects. It has been shown to reduce inflammation and pain.

Does CBD or CBG Get You High?

Both CBD and CBG bond to the CB2 receptors much better than the CB1 receptors in the central nervous system. As a result, there is no psychoactive, or “high,” effect associated with the consumption of CBD or CBG.

CBD and CBG have both been shown to have anti-inflammation, antibacterial, and antibiotic properties. When applied to the sensitive skin of the lips, CBD has been shown to help reduce swelling and redness due to itching and inflammation.
